This media company’s engineering team struggled to keep up with their current project load, as they were unable to find qualified engineering candidates in the US. This was a critical gap that needed to be filled. Without strong data engineering capabilities, this organization lacked the scalable architecture required to ingest, store, and transform raw data. 

They needed a highly qualified data engineer to step in, one who would allow the organization to structure high-performance data models that power their business’ complex visualizations and interactive executive dashboards. Given their positive experience with SEBPO Teams and our consistent delivery of high-quality work, the client inquired about starting with a single resource to address their data engineering requirements.

SEBPO Solution

Our partnership with this client’s engineering team began in March 2025 with the placement of a single data engineer. Initially, this Staff Augmentation solution served as a proof of concept, considering the client had reservations about outsourcing such a complex task.

However, the SEBPO resource quickly adapted to the client’s system nuances, communication style, and engineering requirements. The resource immediately delivered tangible wins and, due to this success and more internal attrition on the client’s side, another SEBPO resource was added. 

These resources took on some notable data engineering projects: 

The client faced a persistent, high-priority GAM Ad Units issue, specifically a management request that had remained unsolved for four years due to its inherent complexity and integration problems. This stagnation was impacting their core data strategy. The SEBPO resources conducted a detailed observation of the problem, defining the independent and dependent factors based on the client’s key parameters. This analysis was used to build a robust lineage model by establishing the client’s hierarchy and transposing the relationships. This model provided the necessary structure to integrate the complex GAM Ad Units data successfully. The solution was highly appreciated by the client and eliminated a four-year bottleneck. 

When a pervasive issue known as ‘branded content mismatch’ generated significant ambiguity across the client’s reporting platforms, it evolved into a performance trust issue for the designated team. This issue remained unsolved for a year before the SEBPO Team stepped in to identify the logical scope defined for each content category. They then engineered a solution to extend functionality by parameterizing its calling reference. This technical approach normalized the usability of branded content data and ensured synchronization across all reporting modalities. The client verified and accepted the solution, which restored performance trust and saved significant time and resources. The client recognized that the solution “saves the day!”

The existing process for running a backfill after any data changes was highly inefficient. The execution time was costly and tedious, often taking a day or two, depending on the business impact and the volume of data stored in the warehouse. This was especially critical when delivery deadlines were short. The backfill process was significantly improved by developing a new mechanism based on SQL-based backfill. This method was designed to safely execute directly within the data warehouse environment, leveraging the warehouse’s power for optimized performance. The client’s team now fully utilizes this SQL-based methodology to minimize execution time while ensuring safe and reliable operation, allowing for faster and more agile data deployments.

Outcome

Since day one, the SEBPO Team has consistently achieved a steady average utilization rate of 100%, demonstrating that the client benefits from the ongoing use of our data engineers. Other wins have included: 

  • Addition of a second data engineering resource due to success
  • Annual cost savings estimated between 46% and 53%
  • Building a new TikTok ads data model and updating the TrueView model to support the social team with pacing
  • Improvement of client workflows to increase speed and completion of backlog tasks
  • Increased identification and resolution of data issues previously unknown to the client
