SEBPO CSR In Action: Dhaka Team Gives Back
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has always been an integral part of SEBPO’s mission, and our teams around the world have made an impact within their communities. This year, our Dhaka Team provided instant humanitarian assistance to those affected by the record-breaking floods and partnered with ASHIC, Foundation for Childhood Cancer.
SEBPO CSR In Action: Dhaka Team Gives Back
Flood Relief in Bangladesh
Torrential rain and mountain runoff in India’s Meghalaya and Assam completely submerged over 90 percent of Sunamganj and the majority of the districts in Sylhet in north-eastern Bangladesh in June 2022. An estimated 7.2 million people were affected and in desperate need of shelter and emergency relief items, according to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. Large parts of these regions were completely cut off from the rest of the country, as the floods wreaked havoc on the region’s road communication network.
To assist the community during this devastating natural disaster, SEBPO employees distributed 1,250 kilograms of rice, 500 kilograms of potatoes, 125 kilograms of dal, 125 kilograms of salt, 300 half liter bottles of oil, and 750 packets of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) among 250 flood-affected families at Madhyanager in the central district of Sunamganj.
Partnership with ASHIC, Foundation for Childhood Cancer
SEBPO also partnered with ASHIC, Foundation for Childhood Cancer, to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM). This is an annual international awareness initiative to raise support and funds for the sufferers of childhood cancer and their families. This awareness strives to educate people about the early symptoms and detection of the disease to increase the chance of recovery and survival.
SEBPO donated chemotherapy medication to the ASHIC Foundation for Childhood Cancer for terminally ill children as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility program.
ASHIC Foundation for Childhood Cancer helps children with cancer by providing various psycho-social support services like parental counseling, Support-a-Life, and several different advocacies. Additionally, ASHIC operates a Shelter and the Palliative Care Unit (PCU) to improve the quality of lives of children with cancer and increase their survival rates. This foundation is particularly important because only 4% of federal cancer research funding is dedicated to childhood cancer.
Whether it’s assisting in emergency situations, or being a steadfast supporter of a long-standing mission to fund research, SEBPO is passionate about regularly partnering with local organizations to help those most in need.
